In commemoration of the birthday of Ghana's first President, Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah, the Ellembelle District Assembly, has donated items worth GH¢750 to the Word Alive Orphanage at Esiama in the Western Region.
The items comprised four bags of rice, four gallons of frytol cooking oil, a bag of sugar, a box of key soap and five pieces of student mattress.
Presenting the items, the District Chief Executive for Ellembelle, Mr Daniel K. Eshun, noted that it was the responsibility of Government to cater for the homeless to enable them to make meaning out of their lives.
He therefore thanked the Word Alive Missions Association in taking a step to complement the efforts of Government by caring for the homeless.
Mr Eshun thanked them for using their resources to assist the people of Ellembelle and promised the Assembly's continuous support for them to train the inmates at the orphanage to become responsible citizens.
The Executive President of Word Alive Mission, Reverend Charles Nyane thanked the Assembly for the donation and appealed to the Assembly to assist two of the inmates, who performed creditably in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), to further their education at the Senior High School (SHS) level.
Rev. Nyane prayed for God's guidance and protection for President Mills and all those in authority in the country.
Earlier, at the Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum, Mr Eshun urged the Tourist Club of Takoradi Polytechnic to learn to be patriotic and to work hard to uplift the image of Nkroful, the hometown of Dr Nkrumah.
He called on them to accept postings to the district during National Service adding "in this way, you will also be contributing to the development of Nkroful and its environs.
