Reverend Samuel Dickson Dumevi, Interchurch Relations Secretary of the Global Evangelical Church (GEC), on Saturday said religious and political leaders must utilize the spiritual and physical resources of people with uttermost integrity.
He said leadership mandate, as given by the people, was fleeting and infinite with many pitfalls and trappings, which leaders must be careful about else they fell.
"It is always a delegated power by the people and once the people have given it, it is by extension given by God," he said.
Rev. Dumevi was speaking at the first ever consecration ceremony of catechists of the GEC in the Volta regional capital Ho.
In all, 100 catechists from across the country, who underwent a three-year training programme at the Global Theological Seminary, took the consecration oath, which was administered by the Moderator of the Church, Rev. Emmanuel Gbordzoe. They all received certificates.
The catechists will assist the pastors in liturgical and administrative functions of the Church.
Rev. Dumevi said leaders must strictly adhere to rules and regulations governing their offices and be committed to their calling spiritually and in the circular circles.
"You must know that whatever you do have consequences, your misconduct may not be seen but there is a higher court that reward and punish all deeds - that is the omniscient God," he said.
Using the analogy of Sampson in the Bible, who God gave strength but got consumed by it, he said most leaders forgot that the power given to them could corrupt them absolutely.
He told the catechists to be careful about women, who would come with all their antics to entice them, adding that they must eschewed arrogance and be modest in all that they did for them to last long in office.
He told them not to carry themselves as pastors but must take instructions from the Church leadership.
Right Reverend Emmanuel Gbordzoe, Moderator of the GEC, congratulated all the catechists for their faithfulness and dedication.
He said they must assist the pastors to propagate the gospel to the world.
Rev. Prince Tefe, Synod Clerk of the GEC, said the greatness of every leader existed in humility, integrity and modesty and call on them to be humble.
He noted that what they were yet to achieve was greater than what they had already achieved and therefore must remained focus.
He said a catechist must be ready to learn from all manner of people in order to succeed in his endeavours.
Mr Bernard Shaw Kwame Attatsi, President of the National Catechist Association of the GEC, urged all Christians to live in harmony with an attitude of forgiveness.
