Mr. Alban Bagbin, the Minister of Water Resources Works and Housing, has donated 20 computers, 20 monitors and 20 UPS to Wa Senior High School to mark its 40th anniversary celebration held on Saturday.
He has also drilled four boreholes for the school to meet the water needs of the 2,000 student population and printed 1,858 “T” shirts and 172 caps which were distributed to students, staff and old students free of charge.
Mr. Jones N. Maari, the Headmaster of the School, said the donation was Mr. Bagbin’s social commitment to the school and appealed to the Old Students Association of the school to help mechanise the boreholes so that they would be sustained to benefit the students.
The Wa Municipal Assembly provided the school with a borehole and four high tension electricity poles to enable the Volta River Authority to give the school a metre to improve transparency in the bills charged.
Another former student, Mr. Kwesi Nyantakyi, President of the Ghana Football Association, donated 10 footballs, two sets of football jerseys, 16 pairs of football boots for the girls and 18 pairs of football boots for the boys to help promote sporting activities in the school.
Mr. Maari said Dr. Darimani Abdulai of Third World Network- Africa who is a past student, provided the school with a fax machine while the Church of Fountain Gate Chapel gave four computers and a printer to the school.
He commended the Old students Association for the support given to the school and appealed to public spirited individuals and non-governmental organisations to come to the aid of the school to enhance teaching and learning.
The Headmaster also commended the Upper West Regional Coordinating Council for the supply of 1,000 bunk beds and 2,000 mattresses to the school to help accommodate students.
Mr. Maari expressed gratitude to the Wa Municipal Health Directorate for establishing a clinic for the school, which made it possible for students to have quick medical attention.
The Parent/Teacher Association of the school supported the school with 1,000 combined metal tables and chairs, repaired the assembly hall chairs, a laptop and 20 desk top computers.
Addressing the students Dr. Robert Yennah, National President of the Wa Senior High School Old Students Association advised the students to have sense of achievement and challenge themselves to attain higher academic laurels.
He also appealed to the students to develop some sense of healthy competition and uphold the principles of discipline and hard work as well as clear mindset to make it to the top.
Some of the past students of the school included, Dr. Sulley Gariba, President of Gariba Associates, and Policy Advisor to Vice President John Dramani Mahama and Mr. Rashid Pelpuo, Deputy Majority Leader in Parliament.
