Gorjiors International in collaboration with Israeli Embassy and Kempinski Hotel, Gold Coast City have held the “2017 Diplomats Run-Way,” aimed to raise funds to support Fistula Surgeries for women in Ghana.
The musical and fashion event saw Ambassadors of Zimbabwe, Colombia, India, Denmark, Hungary, Australia, USA, Israel, General Manager of Kempinski Hotel and Ghana-Israel Business Chamber model on the catwalk in their African wear with a common purpose of ending fistula within a generation with fashion.
They showcased designs from Ghana’s Royal Denis and Israeli Fashion Designer, Betty Eldad.
This is the third in a row that the diplomatic community has taken part in the Run-Way to raise funds to support fistula surgeries for women in Ghana.Obstetric fistula is one of the most serious and tragic childbirth injuries. It is a hole between the birth canal and bladder or rectum caused by prolonged, obstructed labour, without access to timely and quality medical treatment.
It leaves women with leaking urine, faeces or both, and often leads to chronic medical problems, depression, social isolation and deepening poverty.Ms Suzain Manassian Dodoo, the Chief Executive Officer of Gorjiors International explained that the purpose of the event was to honour national and international designers who employed ethical practices in their design and manufacturing process.
She said it was also to create and sustain economic opportunity and to provide awareness about how fashion, textiles, and design could be used to eradicate women health related issues.Ms Dodoo said last year’s event saw a 15-year-old girl treated of the most complicated fistula challenge through funds raised on the Diplomats Run-Way platform.
Ms Dodoo said she is now back in school enjoying all the privileges of a young girl child.
She said Gorjiors International is committed to bringing an end to the Fistula challenge by year 2020.Mr Ami Mehl, the Israeli Ambassador to Ghana, said the run way had come to stay and the proceeds on annual basis would be dedicated to the treatment of women suffering from Obstetric fistula.
