The stakeholders, including; Chiefs, Queenmothers, Artisans, Traders, farmers, Pensioners, and physically challenged people, however, appealed to the government to ensure total implementation of the decision.

Failure to settle the bills, they said would worsen the plight of NHIS card bearers, particularly, the vulnerable people in society.

They gave the commendation during stakeholder held at Agona-Nsaba and Agona Swedru, respectively, on December 12 and December 13, this year, by the NHIS regional Director, Mr Solomon Oppong Nkansah.

It was organised by the Agona District branch of the Nationa Health Insurance Authority to educate the people on the new mobile renewal system of the NHIS ID cards.

Mr Nkansah assured clients of the scheme in the Central region of the government's full determination to fulfill the promise to settle the arrears and advised card bearers to maintain their trust and confidence in the policy.

He praised the stakeholders for the high sense of commitment and love they have cultivated towards national development.

The stakeholders also agreed that, the settlement of the arrears would empower implementors of the policy to arrest and prosecute providers who were using the non-payment of NHIS claims to collect or extort illegal fees from the card bearers.

On the recently introduced mobile NHIS card renewal system, the stakeholders accepted the challenge to assist officials of the scheme to spread the good news to people in the remote arears of the two administrative set ups.

During the two meetings Mr. Josiah Doam kittoe, Agona area manager of the NHIA, and Mr Sackyi sam, Agona West Municipal Director of the National Commission on Civic Education took turns to educate the stakeholders on the new mobile cards.

The theme, for this year's stakeholders meeting was "NHIS – more useful changes and fast improvement in the coming years".
