Mr Tong Defa, Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, has endorsed the Government’s 24-Hour Economy initiative, urging Chinese enterprises to establish manufacturing bases in the country.
He made the remarks during an interactive session with media fellows participating in the ongoing Ghana-China Media Fellowship 2025, organised by the Africa-China Centre for Policy and Advisory (ACCPA).
The engagement focused on economic cooperation, industrial transformation, and sustainable development under the Ghana-China partnership.
“Chinese enterprises should localise manufacturing in Ghana,” adding that the move aligns with broader China-Africa cooperation frameworks such as the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) and the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI),” Mr Tong stated.
He noted that China’s evolving economic engagement now prioritised industrialisation, value addition, and job creation in host countries.
China remains one of Ghana’s leading trade and investment partners.
The Ambassador called for increased Chinese manufacturing ventures to support Ghana’s industrial policy objectives and economic integration.
Ghana’s 24-Hour Economy initiative, launched earlier in 2025, seeks to enhance productivity, generate employment, and boost exports by promoting continuous operations in key sectors including manufacturing, logistics, energy, and services.
The Ghana-China Media Fellowship aims to deepen media understanding of bilateral relations.
The ambassador’s interaction provided participants with insights into the role of diplomacy and enterprise in shaping development priorities between Ghana and China.
