Mr. Osman Tamimu and Mr. Sumaila Seidu told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that a hundred tubers of yam now sell for as little as GHC400, compared to over GHC6,000 in previous years.

They said the drastic drop has made it nearly impossible to recover production costs, let alone make a profit, leaving many farmers frustrated and desperate.

The farmers are appealing to the government and stakeholders for urgent intervention, including market infrastructure development, price control measures, and other initiatives to stabilise the yam market and safeguard livelihoods in the municipality.
