Dormaa Health Directorate of the Ghana Health Service comprising the Dormaa Municipal and Dormaa-East district, has held its 2008 annual review meeting at Dormaa-Ahenkro.
The meeting reviewed the year's activities, recounted achievements, challenges and made recommendations for the way forward.
The meeting was attended by health workers from all the eight sub-districts in the two administrative districts. All the sub districts submitted their reports at the meetings.
Madam Florence Iddrissah, Dormaa Municipal Director of Health Services, noted that malaria cases remained high in the two districts despite preventive and curative measures taken.
She tasked the sub-district heads to diversify their approach to awareness creation of the diseases and focus on preventive measures that would shape attitudes.
On HIV/AIDS, Madam Iddrissah was not happy that the prevalence rate was rising when at the national level the rate was declining.
She said 157 HIV cases recorded in the area in 2007 rose to 378 in 2008.
She also noted that snake and other animal bites were becoming a common phenomenon in the area and called for a concerted effort to check that.
Madam Iddrissah, however, lauded the increase in out-patient attendance in health centres in the area and attributed it to the growth in the membership of the National Health Insurance Scheme and improved service delivery.
