Mrs Beatrice Prempeh, the Obuasi Municipal Director of Education, has observed that the collaboration between the Ghana Education Service (GES) and the Ghana Health Service (GHS) would enhance learning abilities of pupils and students.
This is because a child has to be healthy before he or she can concentrate effectively on his books.
Mrs Prempeh, who was opening a day's workshop on De-worming for over 90 heads of public basic schools in the Obuasi Municipality, said a child had to be healthy to enable him concentrate fully on his school work.
She said it was as a result of that collaboration that the de-worming workshop was being organised to enable teachers to assist the health sector with the administration of drugs on worms.
The Municipal Director urged the participants to take the workshop seriously so that the drugs could be properly and effectively administered.
"A little mistake on your part could cause health havoc," she told the head teachers.
Mrs Prempeh used the occasion to commend teachers in the Municipality for their selfless devotion to duty last year and encouraged them to maintain the spirit this year to improve academic performance in the schools.
Mr Emmanuel Mensah, the Municipal Co-ordinator for School Health Education Programme (SHEP), expressed the hope that the de-worming exercise would bring drastic improvement in the health of the children.
