Mr. Mawusi Emmanuel, the Proprietor of Great Hope, a private pre-school at Adwumam in the Kwabre District of the Ashanti Region, has appealed to the government to streamline the Capitation Grant to benefit pupils in private schools.
He told the GNA in an interview that any government that failed to recognize the role of private schools did so at its own peril.
Mr. Mawusi said parents of the pupils in private schools are citizens and tax payers who deserve to be given fair and equal treatment as parents whose children attend public schools.
He said since the implementation of the Capitation Grant, many parents had withdrawn their children from private schools with to enjoy free education and school feeding programmes in public schools and this has over-stretch facilities in public schools.
Mr. Mawusi said the educational system would suffer a serious setback if private schools were not allowed to assume their rightful positions in the society and urged the government to reduce taxes imposed on private schools.
