Management and workers leaders of establishments have been urged to draw long-term plan making projections of their activities, especially their finances in order to prevent unforeseen eventualities.
Mr. Austin Gamey, a Labour Consultant and Chief Executive Officer of Pulse Institute, Africa gave the advice on Friday noting that, such projections ensured smooth running of administration to promote growth of the organisations.
He gave the advice at a presentation ceremony of certificates to 57 management, senior staff and local union executives of PSC Tema Shipyard after participating in a two-day workshop on conflict management.
Mr. Gamey was the resource person at the workshop which was on the theme; "conversation for change, working together" held at Ada in the Dangme East District of the Greater Accra Region.
In December last year, the entire workers of the PSC Tema Shipyard were interdicted after embarking on strike action over deduction of monies from their bonus without explanation by management.
They were however, recalled after a series of interventions by the national labour executives thereafter management deemed it expedient to hold workshop to enlighten the leaders on labour issues to prevent further strike actions.
He called for mutual respect for each other's views and free flow of communication between management and staff in the running of organisations to avoid mistrust as lack of it results in uneasy calm and eventually end in strike actions.
In the event of any skirmishes, the Labour Consultant implored management and workers leaders to resort to dialogue which has been proved to be very effective in conflict management.
Mr Gamey expressed regret about the poor relations that existed between management and workers of the PSC before their interdiction and hoped that the workshop had enlightened them to work harmoniously as all the participants were allowed to express their sentiments in a friendly and conversational manner.
"The word cooperation was almost non-existing", he stated, urging them to regard themselves as social partners and always resort to dialogue which should not take much of their working hours.
Nr Musah Issah Haruna, head of Resource and Administration of the PSC described the workshop which was held in accordance with directives by the National Labour Commission as very successful.
He said the workshop was very refreshing, educative and beneficial as "it has set a standard way of going about our work in a peaceful atmosphere".
Mr George Kwasi Authur, secretary of PSC's local union appealed to management to extend the workshop to cover the entire staff to keep them on their toes.
