Mr Francis Adu Blay Koffie, Member of Parliament for Prestea-Huni-Valley, in collaboration with members of Prestea Urban Electrification Project have installed a 450-kilovolts transformer booster at Nsuekyir a suburb of Prestea to help control power crisis in the area.
Mr John Akakpo Interim Chairman of the project told newsmen that instead of 220 volts required they sometimes had as low as 152 volts and Mr Koffie's attention was drawn to the situation who promised to help them solve the problem.
He explained that because Bondaye and Prestea-Himan also experienced low current, it was decided to mount the booster at Nsuekyir the worst affected area among the communities.
Mr Akakpo said the transformer would serve about 4,000 residents in the area and an additional transfer would be installed to serve the rest of the affected areas.
He commended the technical team for good work done and appealed to managements of mining companies in and around Prestea to live up to their social responsibilities to speed up development in the communities.
