The meeting was scheduled in response to GRNMA’s nationwide strike, which began on June 2 and escalated into a complete withdrawal of services by June 9. The strike was suspended on 13 June following interventions from the Select Committee and appeals from the general public.

Ms Ofori-Ampofo noted that the strike was suspended in good faith and warned that the Committee’s decision to delay the meeting could affect the timely implementation of agreed resolutions.

“The rescheduling of the meeting is in bad faith since it may further delay the implementation of the agreed items. However, we have decided to give the Committee the benefit of hindsight and still trust their engagement with the Ministries of Health and Finance will be productive,” the statement read.

The GRNMA is demanding the full implementation of four agreed items no later than July 2025, calling this timeline “non-negotiable.” The association has warned that it will “advise itself” should any further delays occur.

For the remaining items, the GRNMA said it is amenable to implementation by January 2026 but insisted that these timelines must be clearly stated and signed off during the 10 July meeting to avoid ambiguity.

The association also extended appreciation to all nurses and midwives for their solidarity during the industrial action and called on them to remain united as the leadership continues to push for the enforcement of their demands.
