Police Superintendent D. O. Lomotey, in-charge of Nkoranza District Police, has appealed to opinion leaders, particularly traditional authorities, to desist from pleading with the police and court officials for the release of relations involved in crime.
He said the practice rather helped to increase the crime wave in the country.
Addressing the chiefs and elders of Nkwabeng in Nkoranza South District Mr Lomotey said there was no way he would pardon persons arrested for theft, rape or defilement.
"I will deal drastically with such criminals to serve as deterrent to like-minded persons", he said.
Mr Lomotey expressed concern about how most unemployed youth had resorted to the taking of hard drugs and are engaged in social vices.
Mr. Kwame Baffoe-Duah, Assembly Member for Yeboasa Electoral Area at Nkwabeng, said the people had built a police station at the cost of GHC 5,500.
Nana Kyere Kuffour, chief of the area, appealed to the police to help check the activities of group hunters as well as all those possessing fire arms in the area.
