The Ghana Presbyterian Church in Sydney, Australia, has procured 170,000 dollars worth of hospital items to be donated to the church's health services in Ghana.
The items include 150 hospital beds and 100 mattresses, dozens of baby cots for the maternity ward, hospital gloves and medicine trays.
Mr Isaac Osei-Kumah, Caretaker of the Ghana Presbyterian Church in Sydney said the items were procured following an appeal to the Church by the Right Reverend Dr Yaw Frimpong-Manso, Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG), when he inaugurated the Church in Australia in February last year.
The PCG is the third largest provider of health services in Ghana after the Ghana government and the Roman Catholic Church. It has hospitals in Agogo, Donkorkrom, Dormaa Ahenkro, Twifo, and Bawku.
Mr Osei-Kumah said the money was raised after several fund-raising efforts and that the items were yet to be presented to PCG in Accra.
"We regard ourselves as quite fortunate in Australia where we enjoy free world-class medical facilities," he said.
Mr Osei-Kumah said; "We hope our little contribution will go some way to alleviate some of the equipment shortages and a lack of some facilities in Presbyterian hospitals across Ghana", Mr Osei-Kumah added.
He hinted that the Ghana Presbyterian Church in Sydney is planning to adopt a ward at a Presbyterian hospital in Ghana.
He appealed to other Ghana Presbyterian Church congregations in the Diaspora to help the church fulfil its mission of providing care for the less fortunate members of the Ghanaian society.
