Thirty-Five (35) basic schools in seven selected districts, have been rehabilitated at a total cost of 2.2 million dollars through the Millennium Challenge Account (MCA).
Mr Martin Eson-Benjamin, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Millennium Development Authority (MiDA), who announced this, said an additional 278 school blocks in 30 other districts had been planned for construction and refurbishment.
The MCA is a United States (US) Government's development support for countries that rule justly and invest in their peoples.
Ghana is benefiting from 547 million dollars under the MCA.
Mr Eson-Benjamin was inaugurating two of the rehabilitated schools, Ahwerewa D/A Primary School in the Sekyere East District, and Seniagya Methodist Primary School in the Sekyere Afram Plains District, on Tuesday.
He said the projects formed part of the Rural Development Project of the MCA Ghana Programme to provide community services in support of Agriculture in the beneficiary Districts.
The MiDA CEO mentioned portable water, sanitation facilities and rural electrification to power cottage industries among activities to be undertaken under the programme.
Mr Kwadwo Adae, District Chief Executive (DCE) for Sekyere East expressed appreciation for the intervention and said this would help improve education and reduce poverty among the people in the beneficiary districts.
The DCE said that he was particularly happy that the programme was providing sustained support for the Agriculture Sector through Farmer Based Organizations (FBOs).
The FBOs were being trained to adapt to the use of modern farming technologies to boost production.
Nana Asare Ampomah Boamah, Krontihene of the Asokore Traditional Area, said they were grateful for their inclusion in the programme.
