Mr. Mohammed Boakye Agyeman, the Ejisu-Juaben Municipal Chief Executive, has announced a ban on the use of classrooms as place of worship by churches in the municipality.
He said in as much as the constitution guaranteed freedom of worship, it did not permit any group to turn public classrooms into worship centres.
Mr. Agyeman was handing over a block of six classrooms with an office, teacher's staff room, store, library and a toilet facility built for the Onwe M/A Junior High School at the cost of GH¢150,000.
The Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) provided the funding.
He expressed dissatisfaction about the destruction of tables, chairs, doors and windows provided for schools at huge cost through the activities of some churches.
Mr. Boakye Agyeman directed school heads who had given permission for the use of classrooms as place of worship to rescind the decision.
Those who refuse to go by the directive would be sanctioned by the assembly.
Receiving the keys to the block on behalf of the school, Mrs. Agnes Okyere Gyamfi, the Municipal Education Director, praised the government for the structure and advised both the teachers and pupils to make good use of the facility to improve the level of education in the area.
