The Ejisu-Juaben Municipal Directorate of Education has threatened to close down private schools operating outside laid down rules of the Ghana Education Service (GES).
Mrs. Agnes Okyere-Gyamfi, the Municipal Director, said they would not hesitate to shut down any private school in the municipality found to be operating illegally.
She was speaking at a Speech and Prize Giving Day of the Emmanuel Preparatory School at Ejisu.
The Education Director expressed her indignation at school proprietors who, in their unbridled quest for money, did not provide the right environment for effective teaching and learning.
She said apart from the problem of sanitation and lack of good ventilation some of the teachers they employed did not qualify to teach.
Mrs. Okyere-Gyamfi was quick to acknowledge the important role private schools were playing in the nation's education and said the GES would continue to support those which were doing the right thing.
Madam Vida Owusu-Asare, Proprietor of the school, expressed appreciation for the support her school was receiving from the Municipal Directorate of Education.
Established in 1993 with only eight pupils, it now has a population of 262.
