Five 4H-Ghana Clubs in schools and two other clubs won awards at this year's farmers-Day celebrations.
The clubs were engaged in the Enterprise Gardening Project of 4H-Ghana which was aimed at introducing the future farmers of the country to the use of good quality seeds and farming methods that ensure high productivity in agriculture production at youthful ages.
The project is being sponsored by Dupon-Pioneer, a seed company based in the USA and the clubs members are provided with seeds and equipment to produce vegetables and help raise funds for the school.
Mr Kweku Boateng, the Chief Executive Officer of 4h-Ghana, said this at the end of year meeting of the Board of Directors of 4H Ghana at Koforidua on Thursday.
He said the clubs that won the awards to include, Agotime Junior High School(JHS), Afram Plains, Begoro Islamic JHS, Abomosu Presbyterian JHS, Larbikrom District Assembly(D/A) JHS, Osiem Saviour Church JHS, Abosomase and Tutu 4H-Ghana out of school youth clubs.
Mr Boateng said in the coming year, the number of schools engaged in the Enterprise Gardening program would be expanded from 120 to 167 schools.
He said new clubs to be included next year would be given free seeds and equipments and that schools which could not save from their production, would be supported with some free seeds.
Under the Enterprise Gardening Project, members of the clubs in school are given seeds and with the support of Agriculture Agencies, are taught farming protocols that ensure high productivity and supported to establish their own school farms and gardens to enable them learn modern farming by practice.
