President John Dramani Mahama on Thursday commended the security services for nurturing and maintaining a convivial relationship, which had contributed to national territorial integrity.
He said: "Your contribution before, during and after the December general election is highly commendable.
"You displayed high sense of commitment, discipline; diligence and selflessness as well as interagency collaboration to protect the country."
President Mahama gave the commendation in Accra during an interaction with the security personnel after a three -hour route march.
He said the international community was full of praise for the men and women in the security services for displaying professionalism and diligence particularly during the elections.
The route march was undertaken by Ghana Armed Forces, Ghana Police Service, Ghana Prisons Service, Ghana Fire Service, Ghana Immigration Service and the Customs Division of Ghana Revenue Authority.
President Mahama told the personnel to remain steadfast to strengthen national harmony and peace.
He praised the personnel for displaying unity of purpose, discipline and dexterity during the exercise, and suggested the need to institutionalise the event to so that it would be placed on the national calendar.
He urged Ghanaians to use the New Year to do sober reflection to maintain national cohesion.
He paid tribute to the late President John Evans Atta Mills, former Vice President Alhaji Aliu Mahama, Mr Henry Ford Kamel, Volta Regional Minster and victims of the Melcom Disaster at Achimota in Accra.
Lieutenant-General Peter Augustine Blay, Chief of Defence Staff, commended the personnel for displaying discipline, selflessness, enthusiasm, commitment, high morale and diligence.
He said the personnel had demonstrated exceptional qualities of cooperation to maintain peace and security.
Lt Gen Blay said the march was a reinvigorating one replicated in the other regions to prepare the personnel to rise up to the occasion.
