Two persons on Wednesday appeared before an Accra Circuit Court charged with conspiracy, rape and robbery.
They are Michael Kwabla, a 24-year labourer and Bismark Yeboah, a 24-year old mason both residing at Katamanso, near Adenta in Accra.
While Kwablah had an additional charge of rape, the court asked that his accomplice Yeboah should be charged with abetment of crime.
The court presided over by Mr Francis Obiri remanded them into police custody to reappear on January 23 this month.
Prosecuting Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) P.A. Morkeh said the complainant (Victim) is a 23 year old sales girl residing at Adenta.
DSP Morkeh said Kwablah was a former boyfriend to the victim but prior to the incident, they had broken up for two months.
According to DSP Morkeh, Kwablah has been harassing the victim to reconcile with him but that had fallen on death ears.
On December 25, last year, the two accused persons went to a night club and got drunk and planned to rob the victim.
Prosecution said based on that the following day, at about 0300 hours the accused persons prepared and set off with a kitchen knife and masks.
On reaching the victim's house, the accused persons broke into the victim's room and Yeboah who was in a mask, armed himself with a kitchen knife and demanded money in his bid to attack the victim.
DSP Morkeh said a struggle which ensued between the victim and Yeboah left a cut on the victim's little left finger. Yeboah managed to overcome the victim and gripped her firmly on the bed thereby making way for Kwabla to rape her.
Soon after the act, the accused persons took the victim's mobile phone valued at GHc100.00 cedis but the victim identified Kwabla because of some striking features on his body.
The Police, prosecution said, arrested the accused persons and when their room was searched, a kitchen knife stained with blood was found and the victim identified that as the one used by the accused persons.
DSP Morkeh said the accused persons in their cautioned statements admitted the offence, adding a case docket was being forwarded to the Attorney General's office for advice.
