All roads will be leading to the Eastern Regional capital, Koforidua this Saturday, 12th January, 2013, as the Tigo Community Soccer team prepares to thrill football fans and players in the Municipality.
The introduction of the second edition of the Tigo Community Soccer tournament saw the good old days of community soccer rivalry rekindled in Accra, Tema and Ho as these cities were entertained with some good football and 'asides.'
In anticipation of keeping the momentum across the country, Tigo Ghana will be deepening the platform that has resurrected this customary rivalry among soccer fans of the Eastern and Western territories as they receive their fair share of the game that has long been described as the passion of the nation.
The Community football fiesta covers a period of three-days at each stop. There is the group stage, the elimination stage and the final stage. In order to promote inclusiveness, there will be interesting side shows which will include women's penalty shoot-outs and 'jogo bonitos'-known in local football parlance as 'totals'.
Explaining Tigo's association with the community soccer event, Tenu Awoonor, Head of Marketing said: "As a brand that has been part of the nation for the past 20 years, it is only natural that we are part of the nation's passion, football.
Tigo is committed to developing the nation's passion at the grassroots-level and promote unity and peace while we putt smiles on the faces of the people in our communities," he added.
Tigo Community Soccer is a feast of football, played among competing neighborhood teams in selected communities across the country. This year's edition, has taken on a zonal format in which the country has been split into five territories namely Accra, Eastern, Western, Northern and Ashanti. It is also set to provide further excitement to the nation's favorite sport from the nation's premier telecommunication services provider.
Koforidua is the last of three in the Eastern territory which also consisted of Ho and Tema.
Western territory networking Cape-Coast, Sekondi, Takoradi and Tarkwa will be the next stop.
