Ghana looked somewhat fatigued as they ultimately overcame Nigeria to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations final on Thursday, but Milovan Rajevac was unconcerned about the defensive style of play his side used to record a narrow 1-0 win.
An early header from Asamoah Gyan had given the Black Stars the lead, but they were forced to cling on with their fingertips in the closing stages of the game as their opponents piled forward.
“I told my guys we would not play to produce good football today, but for the result,” he said, according to the AFP news agency. “[The result is] the only thing that counts and we got what we wanted. At the World Cup it will be different because we will have recovered our wounded and we will have our stars.
“We have given another image of Ghanaian football. Nigeria had several opportunities but they came about because my team is young and inexperienced, often providing openings for our adversaries.”
