SAFA will update the CAF congress on progress made ahead of the World Cup.
SAFA has appointed vice president Chief Mwelo Nonkonyana to be acting president of the Association during president Kirsten Nematandani’s absence.

Nonkonyana will be in his acting position until Monday, February 1. Nematandani is currently leading a SAFA delegation to the 32nd CAF Congress that is taking place in Luanda today.

Other members of the delegation are CEO Leslie Sedibe and CEO of the World Cup 2010 Organising Committee Danny Jordaan, as well as SAFA vice president Mandla Mazibuko.

"It is very encouraging that the SAFA leadership has been invited to this auspicious event. It is a clear signal which confirms our earlier meetings with CAF that they recognise our leadership.

"This is an indication that not only are we recognised locally, but also on the continent, and should show all the sceptics that we are the legitimate leadership of South African football following the democratic elections on September 26, 2009," said Nonkonyana, according to Kickoff.com.

The SAFA delegation will also have a chance to update the CAF Congress on South Africa’s state of readiness for the 2010 World Cup.

"The CAF Congress will focus on reports of the tournament among other things, as to what has transpired since the start. There will be reports from various committees and there should also be some condemnation of the recent terrorist attacks in Cabinda, Angola.

"But on the South African side, Dr Jordaan has been deployed to address the members and bring them up to speed with developments regarding preparations for the 2010 FIFA World Cup," added Nonkonyana.

The SAFA delegation is also expected to watch the final of the Orange Africa Cup of Nations between Ghana and defending champions Egypt. The final will be played on Sunday in Luanda, Angola.
