Haiti's new president vowed Saturday at his inauguration to tackle the Caribbean nation's many problems. President Michel Martelly addressed the crowd in Port-au-Prince where electricity went out moments before the ceremony.
CNN said the former pop singer delivered his speech as former U.S. President Bill Clinton and other members of the audience fanned themselves in the heat.
Social media, which Martelly used skillfully in the campaign, called the blackout a bad omen, but also channeled a stream of hopeful messages that real changes would finally come to Haiti.
The live Internet blog Haiti Libre said Martelly and his wife hosted a luncheon for foreign dignitaries at the Karibe Hotel and also attended
a mass and a review of the nation's national police.
