Algeria coach, Djamel Belmadi has said they have learnt their lessons after failing to grab all three points against Angola in their opening game of the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Côte d'Ivoire 2023.
The 2019 TotalEnergies CAF AFCON winners took a first half lead but failed to maintain their lead after Angola scored to level matters in the second half.
According to Djamel Belmadi, the results is not what they were expecting but will manage a point.
“This is not the result we expected. We were expecting to have 3 points. We tried our best and didn’t want to lose the game so we did what we can do to get a point which was necessary.
“We were suppose to do better in the second half but we can also talk about the moments we did well. We have identified our weakness as we didn’t defend very well for us to concede the penalty which was a big mistake. We are in a transitional period so we try for this team to work together and we have also learnt lessons from this game for our remaining games.
Belmadi however, admitted they made technical errors which affected them but they will prepare for a better result against Burkina Faso.
“We made some technical mistakes but it’s not professional to start a tournament with the mindset of a loser so we will prepare for the match against Burkina Faso to put things right,” he said at the Post Match conference.
