As part of their entry into the wireless telecom industry leading corporate major Videocon has
launched GSM-mobile-services in south Indian state Kerala.
Apart from an investment of Rs 200-250 crore which has already been done, the company will invest an additional 400 crore in the state in course of time, a top company official
said.
"The services have been started with a network of 1500 BTS at the time of launch. It is expected to touch 2500 by the year end to deliver superior services to subscribers across
all major towns, national and state highways and important railway stations in the state," Aravind Santhanam, Chief Operating Officer, Tamil Nadu and Kerala said.
Videocon targets 100 per cent of the urban population of the state and 70 per cent of the rural population in the coming months.
Around 15,000 outlets would be active in the state in the beginning and it would increase upto 22,500 outlets within 6 months, company sources said.
Unveiling the tariff plans, Santhanam said the Rs 399 monthly recharge plan was designed to help subscribers with a fixed monthly mobile bill for their local calls.
Subscribers could make unlimited number of free local calls both on the Videocon network as well as to other service provider networks.
Videocon, which is the 11th mobile service provider in Kerala, is aiming to reach top 3 in the next three years.
