The Deputy Minister of Finance, Thomas Ampem Nyarko, has inaugurated a nine-member governing board for the Cocoa Marketing Company Limited, with a mandate to enhance operational efficiency, promote sustainability, and uphold Ghana’s standing as a global cocoa powerhouse.
The newly constituted board is chaired by the Majority Leader in Parliament, Mahama Ayariga, with Dr. Wisdom Kofi Dogbey as the acting Managing Director.
Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, Mr Nyarko stressed the board’s strategic role in strengthening the cocoa value chain.
He urged the members to prioritise sustainability, boost yields, and implement measures to combat the growing menace of cocoa smuggling.
He further noted that the board must ensure that CMC delivers greater value to cocoa farmers and the national economy by improving operational systems and fostering stronger sector-wide partnerships.
As a key subsidiary of COCOBOD, the Cocoa Marketing Company is responsible for the sale and export of Ghana’s cocoa. The new board is expected to ensure that the company continues to be a cornerstone of the country’s agricultural export economy.
