The National Investment Bank (NIB) on Monday launched its new mobile application, “NIB Mobile,” and unveiled the “Ubuntu” initiative, pledging to expand digital banking services and foster community-driven innovation.
The ceremony brought together several top dignitaries, including Odeneho Dr. Affram Brempong III, Omanhene of the Suma Traditional Area and Member of the Council of State, who chaired the event, as well as key figures from across the banking fraternity.
In his opening remarks, Odeneho Brempong III commended NIB for its remarkable progress and urged stakeholders to embrace digital transformation as a pathway to inclusive growth.
He noted that banking was rapidly shifting from “bricks and mortar” to digital platforms, enabling customers to transact business conveniently from their phones and homes.
“I cannot even recall the last time I walked into a bank to issue a cheque,” he said, underscoring the relevance of mobile banking in today’s financial landscape.
He highlighted the bank’s turnaround performance, recalling that NIB recorded a loss of about GHS44 million last year but had achieved a profit of about GHS74 million by mid-year 2025.
“This is a very significant achievement, and I believe you can do more,” he remarked, adding that he had personally worked with the Managing Director and was confident in his leadership.
Odeneho Brempong III also stated that the bank’s resilience and renewed vision had inspired him to lend his support.
He urged all stakeholders to join hands to ensure the success of the initiative, stressing that it would have a positive impact on customer care and service delivery.
In his welcome address, Chief Dr. Doliwura Zakaria, NIB Managing Director, said the mobile app would “offer endless possibilities” for customers, enabling seamless transactions and strengthening the bank’s digital footprint.
He said the Ubuntu initiative reflected NIB’s commitment to unity and shared progress and that the launch was not merely about introducing a mobile application but about “unveiling a new chapter in the transformation of NIB; one that blends innovation with humanity, digital strength with cultural renewal, and technology with purpose.”
He noted that the bank had undergone a remarkable renewal in recent months, strengthening its capital position, restoring market confidence, and repositioning itself as a credible national development institution.
Dr Zakaria stated that the new mobile app would provide seamless, secure, and convenient banking directly into the hands of customers.
“With just a few taps, customers can open accounts, transfer funds, pay bills, and purchase airtime,” he said. “Yet, as powerful as this technology is, we recognize one essential truth: technology alone does not define greatness- people do.”
He explained that the philosophy of Ubuntu – “I am because we are,” would guide the bank’s new organizational culture.”
“Behind every transaction is a human story. Behind every account is a dream, and behind every customer interaction is an opportunity to demonstrate care, integrity, and respect,” he added.
The Golden Rule Initiative, he said, would ensure that customers and colleagues were treated as staff themselves would wish to be treated.
With the launch of the NIB Mobile App and Ubuntu initiative, the bank signaled its readiness to support Ghana’s ongoing industrialization drive, empower SMEs, and contribute meaningfully to national development.
“This is your app, your bank, and our shared future. Together, we are building a stronger, smarter, and more people-centered investment bank,” Dr. Zakaria said.
In a speech read on his behalf, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, Finance Minister, commended the bank’s digital drive, noting that “innovation in financial services is critical to Ghana’s economic resilience.”
He commended NIB for aligning its digitalization agenda with Ghana’s broader economic transformation goals and called on financial institutions to align with government’s agenda for digital transformation.
He urged the bank to continue supporting small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and contributing to the government’s vision of the 24-hour economy.
Delivering the keynote address, Ambassador Mussie Hailu, Regional Director of United Religions Initiative (URI-Africa), highlighted Ubuntu’s philosophy of togetherness.
He stressed the need to fuse digital innovation with human-centered values, stating that the initiative would “champion the values of solidarity, peace, and shared prosperity,” and position NIB as a frontrunner in socially responsible banking.
“The NIB Mobile App is more than a tool for convenience. It is a gateway to accessible banking, but it’s true strength lies in the philosophy of Ubuntu. This alignment of technology and humanity is the future of banking and development,” he added.
He further noted that the initiative would differentiate NIB in Ghana’s evolving financial landscape, saying: “When customers use the NIB Mobile App, they are not just interacting with software. They are connecting with a bank that sees them, values them, and walks with them.”
Deputy Minister for Communication, Digital Transformation and Innovation, Mr. Mohammed Adams Sukparu, officially launched the NIB Mobile app, describing it as “a milestone in bridging access to financial services.”
He also praised NIB for its forward-looking approach and described the app as “a significant leap forward in Ghana’s digital banking ecosystem.”
