Jamestown was transformed into a hub of music, culture and celebration over the weekend as thousands of people thronged the community for the MoMo Fest Artiste Night, one of the major highlights of this year’s Homowo Festival.
The open-air concert blended modern entertainment with traditional values, drawing residents, visitors and music lovers into a vibrant atmosphere that reflected the spirit of the Ga people’s annual celebration.
Performances from some of Ghana’s most popular artistes, including Fameye, Mr Drew, OlivetheBoy, King Jerry, DJ Juicy and DJ Lord OTB, electrified the crowd. From soulful live renditions to pulsating dance tracks, the artistes ensured festivalgoers experienced a memorable evening of both cultural expression and musical energy.
The concert was supported by MTN Ghana, headline sponsor of MoMo Fest, which set up sales stands across Jamestown to provide residents and visitors with easy access to its products and services. Customer service representatives were also on hand to assist subscribers with mobile-related enquiries and technical issues.
In addition, MTN deployed mobile service points to facilitate SIM card replacements, Mobile Money registrations and customer education on fraud prevention. These interventions were designed to enhance customer experience while strengthening community engagement.
Staying true to its tradition of combining entertainment with learning, Mobile Money Limited hosted a highly competitive quiz on mobile money fraud awareness. The contest attracted strong participation from young festivalgoers and offered practical lessons on identifying and avoiding scams. The highlight of the quiz came when the overall winner received a cash prize of GH¢7,000, prompting loud cheers from the jubilant crowd.
The evening also featured cultural performances of drumming, dancing and storytelling, highlighting the heritage of the Homowo Festival and underscoring the resilience of Ga traditions. The combination of indigenous rituals with contemporary music has, in recent years, broadened the festival’s appeal to younger audiences and created a cultural bridge across generations.
The Homowo Festival, celebrated annually by the Ga people, commemorates their migration and triumph over famine centuries ago. It is traditionally marked by rituals, feasting and community gatherings, with Jamestown serving as one of the central points of celebration. The introduction of MoMo Fest Artiste Night has added a modern dimension to the festival, reinforcing its relevance in today’s social and cultural context.
