Mr Isaac Kingsley Ehunu-Armah, District Chief Executive for Gomoa East, on Thursday cut the sod for the construction of a GHC 200 million school complex at a ceremony at Gomoa Tekyiam.
The project being financed by the Obantan Mobilization Against Poverty Fund (OMAP), a Non Governmental Organisation (NGO) includes the construction of a nursery, primary and junior high school.
It would be undertaken in two phases and be completed within three months.
Mr Ehunu-Armah said the Assembly would commit resources to the project to promote education in the district.
Madam Kitoe Manful, Founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Organization, said the second phase of the project would include the
construction of a vocational and technical training centre.
Courses to be offered include, hair dressing, masonry, Photography, information technology, electrical, electronics, plumbing, skin care and
auto mechanic.
Madam Manful said the NGO has adopted Gomoa Tekyiam to help and empower under privileged women and school dropouts, to reduce poverty among the
inhabitants.
She said the NGO would also train the students in grassroots governance, rights based advocacy, and mobilization of human, material, and financial resources, to meet the needs of the individuals and communities in the area.
Mr Francis Obeng, Gomoa East District Director of Education said the construction of the school would stop the children from trekking on foot for
about one and half kilometres from Tekyiam to Awormerw to attend school.
He advised the people to take the project as their own and contribute their quota by offering communal labour to ensure its early completion.
