The Chairman of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Education, Mr Mathias Puozaa, has suggested the involvement of District Chief executives and heads of schools in the award of contracts to ensure effective supervision.
He said areas where they had been involved in the supervision of projects had seen projects well completed.
Mr Puozaa was speaking to journalists at the end of a two- day tour by members of the committee of some GETFund sponsored projects in the Eastern Region.
He said his committee would recommend to the Ministry of Education to complete ongoing projects in schools before starting new ones.
The committee would also suggest early completion of all classroom projects in the country to provide classroom to students next academic year.
Mr Puozaa said the tour also took members of the committee to parts of Volta and Central regions and that the exercise had made the committee to see the performance of the many contractors handling school projects in the regions.
Members of the committee expressed displeasure about the quality of furniture submitted to the library that was sponsored by the GETFund at the Mont Mary College of Education at Somanya.
The Acting Principal of the College, Mr. Peter Attafuah, appealed for access roads to the school, construction of a new women's dormitory, an Administration block and a science laboratory.
He said though the college specialized in the training of French teachers, the language laboratory for French had broken down for 12 years
and appealed to the Ghana Education Service to help rehabilitate the Laboratory.
At Asesewa Senior High School, members of the committee expressed their displeasure about the quality of sand being used for the construction of a two-storey 12-unit classroom block and urged the consultant on the project to ensure that the correct thing is done.
The Headmaster of the school, Mr Samuel Gyebi Yeboah, appealed to the committee to provide the school with a boys' dormitory, assembly hall,
dining hall, administration block and staff bungalows.
