The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has described as false allegations that Dr. Koku Awoonor-Williams, former Upper East Regional Director of GHS has stolen vehicles belonging to the service.
“The Ghana Health Service therefore wishes to put on record that these allegations are completely false as no vehicles have been stolen or missing from the Service,” a statement signed in Accra and copied The Ghanaian Times by Dr. Ebenezer Appiah-Denkyira, Director-General of GHS, said.
On the issue of the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), it said relevant information had been provided to the commission, which initiated investigations into the matter when its attention was drawn to the alleged missing or stolen vehicles.
“It is noteworthy that the Service has already provided all relevant information with respect to these publications to CHRAJ, which initiated investigations into the issue when its attention was drawn to the alleged missing or stolen vehicles”.
The statement also described as mischievous and malicious the use of social media to dent the integrity of hardworking staff of GHS who have rendered meritorious services to the country.
“The Ghana Health Service takes strong exception to these false, mischievous and malicious publications and the use of social media to dent the integrity and reputation of hardworking staff of the Service who have over the years rendered meritorious services to the country and endeared themselves throughout their working life,” the statement added.
It said: “Dr. Awoonor-Williams has done nothing untoward with respect to the management of the vehicles during his stewardship in the Upper East Regional Directorate”.
“It is envisaged that this rejoinder will put to rest any misgivings that the public might have on the alleged stolen vehicles in the Upper East Regional Health Directorate of the Ghana Health Service,” the statement added.
