Mr Abdul Karim, the Techiman Municipal Officer of the Environmental Health, has called on Environmental Health personnel to turnover a new leaf and seek the co-operation and support from the general public to bring about good sanitation in the Municipality.
He said, they should stop the old tradition of only issuing summons to people but to create an image that would make the general public realise the importance of their work as health officers.
Mr. Karim made the call whilst addressing a day's workshop for Environmental Health workers at Techiman.
The workshop was aimed at updating the knowledge of the Environmental Health Officers on the inspection and how best they could restructure the environmental health inspection in a bid to promote hygienic and good sanitation in the Municipality.
Mr. Karim said environmental health implied the physiological and biological factors within the environment which when not controlled could have adverse effect on the people and urged them to address such issues towards better health needs of the people.

Mr. Karim asked the officers to address the issue very critically so as to be able to assess, conduct, prevent and control such conditions happening among the health officers and the general public.
He expressed the hope that the update of the workshop would serve as a drive in creating a good atmosphere as far as environmental health is concern.
Mr. John Asamani, Secretary of the Techiman Municipal Environmental Health Department asked the officers to improve their inspection exercise and education in seven premises for the control of diseases.
These areas include, dwelling Houses, Schools, Hospitals, Sanitary and Vertinary Facilities, Hospitality Industries including Chop bars, Restaurants as well as Slaughter Houses.
Mr Asamani stressed the need for the Health Officers to encourage schools in the formation of School Health Clubs to promote environmental sanitation in schools.
The Health workers in a communiqué appealed to the Ministry of Local Government to restore their Extra Duty Allowance, Funding of outreach programmes and restructuring the salaries of Environmental Health Workers.
