Fourteen individuals arrested in connection with illegal mining activities at Akyem Muoso in the Eastern Region have been remanded into prison custody.
The suspects were apprehended by the Eastern South Regional Police Command on May 15, 2025, during an operation targeting unauthorised mining in the area.
According to a statement released by the Ghana Police Service, the accused were arraigned before the Koforidua Circuit Court B on 16 May 2025. During the court proceedings, each of the suspects was granted bail in the sum of GH¢350,000 with two sureties, one of whom must be justified with movable property.
During the operation that led to their arrest, the police recovered a pump action gun from one of the suspects, Zuberu Nuhoho, who reportedly failed to provide documentation for the firearm. In addition, two excavator control boards were retrieved from the illegal mining site.
The police said investigations are ongoing as part of broader efforts to clamp down on illegal mining operations and related offences in the region.
