A high-level delegation from the Quantity Surveyors (QS) Division of the Ghana Institute of Surveyors (GhIS) has paid a visit to the University of Cape Coast (UCC) as part of preparations towards the 2025 Professional Conference.
The delegation, led by Mr Osei Agyemang Badu, Chairman of the QS Division of GhIS, toured and inspected all the facilities in the school to establish its readiness and conduciveness to host the two-day event.
The national QS Division Conference is held annually to assess the state of the industry and confer on the advancement of the profession.
For the first time, the conference, scheduled for Thursday, October 23 and Friday, 24, will be hosted in Cape Coast at UCC by the Central and Western Regions.
More than 500 quantity surveyors are expected to be in attendance.
Mr Agyemang Badu expressed satisfaction with the "perfect" state of the facilities, commending both the school and the local organising committee for keeping the preparations on course.
"We came to inspect the venue, and we have seen that everything is perfect. We will communicate our observations with our colleagues in Accra for our preparations to begin in earnest," he said.
Mr Agyemang Badu announced plans by the QS Division of GhIS to establish a QS academy to train young professionals.
He explained that the academy would operate on a semester basis and was open to all people who wanted to train as quantity surveyors.
Prof Kwamina Bamfo-Agyei, the Chairman of the Local Organising Committee, indicated the two regions' preparedness to host the conference.
"They have come to see our facilities and so far, everything is well; we are poised for action to host them," he said.
Even though a theme is yet to be established for the programme, Prof Bamfo-Agyei revealed that the focus would be value for money.
"Most projects are abandoned because people are not able to plan to ensure they have the necessary funding to execute the projects. We will look at how best to design feasible projects and to finish on time," he said.
"We can also predict projects that are performing well and at the early stages, you will be able to know whether this project will have some challenges that you want resolve," he added.
Prof Bamfo-Agyei entreated all members of the professional community to show up and make the seminar successful.
