A real estate company, Lakeside Estate, has embarked on a tree planting exercise in support of the Green Ghana Initiative.
The exercise, which saw staff of the company, residents of the estate and contractors plant trees around the estate, was aimed at emphasising the importance of tree planting for real estate, climate change as well as building a sustainable legacy.
Addressing the gathering at the start of the exercise, the Chief Executive Officer of Lakeside Estate, Dr Prince-Joseph M. K. Ayiku, said without a green environment, the structures they see in their homes, communities and cities that were associated with real estate would be incomplete.
“Trees bring balance.
They cool our neighbourhoods, purify our air, enrich our soil, support biodiversity, and add real economic and aesthetic value to our properties.
Every tree we plant is a natural air conditioner, a shield against erosion, and a guardian of our future.
It provides shade for a child yet unborn and fruit for a family we may never meet,” he said.
Dr Ayiku said for those in the real estate sector, greening their developments was not optional, rather essential because clients were now not just looking for homes, ‘they’re looking for livable, breathable, healthy communities.
Tree-lined streets, parks, and preserved green spaces increase property values and improve mental well-being.
A green Lakeside is a thriving Lakeside’.
He said the commitment of his company to green Ghana was a contribution to climate resilience adding that, the company does not just build houses but was leading a movement where development and environmental care went hand-in-hand.
He urged all to plant trees now not just for their beauty but for survival and for a future where children and grandchildren would walk in the shade of the trees they planted today.
“Together, let's root our future in green. Let’s sow a legacy of hope, resilience, and life.
May every tree we plant today stand strong and proud for generations to come,” he said.
