Health Messenger International (HMI) wishes to commend Government for its bold and forward-looking commitment, as captured in the 2026 Budget Statement and Economic Policy to complete ten (10) of the abandoned Agenda 111 hospital projects. The agenda 111 were the number of district hospitals promised to be completed by the previous government to respond to the COVID-19 crisis. This pledge by the current government demonstrates a responsible and pragmatic approach to governance one that prioritizes continuity, efficiency, and the well-being of citizens over partisan considerations.
For too long, abandoned projects have stood as symbols of wasted resources and missed opportunities. By choosing to complete existing facilities, Government is sending a strong signal that national development must transcend political cycles. This decision will not only expand access to healthcare but also restore public confidence in the state’s ability to deliver on promises made to the people. The completion of these hospitals will:
We urge Government to sustain this momentum by ensuring transparency in the allocation of resources, timely completion of the projects, and equitable distribution of healthcare facilities across the country. We also call on stakeholders including civil society, local communities, and health professionals to support this initiative and hold all parties accountable to the timelines and standards promised.
This bold step is a reminder that when leadership places the national interest above partisan divides, Ghana wins. We look forward to seeing these hospitals completed and operational, serving as a lasting legacy of responsible governance.
