The Dean of the Faculty of Business and Applied Sciences at the Regional Maritime University (RMU), Dr Issac O. Nyarkor, has called on foreign recruitment agencies to fully disclose their operational arrangements to local partners before beginning any recruitment programmes in Ghana. Dr Nyarkor emphasised that such transparency would facilitate background checks, monitoring, and tracking of applicants working abroad.
“As local institutions, parents, or guardians, we deserve the right to know every detail of applicants’ travel and employment processes to ensure their welfare,” he stated. He made these remarks during a one-day orientation workshop organised by the National Association for Heavy-Duty Equipment Operators Ghana (NAHEOG), RMU, and SAMANA HR Ghana Limited.
The workshop targeted skilled applicants interested in working in Saudi Arabia, particularly those experienced with forklifts, mobile cranes, and other specialised equipment. Dr Nyarkor stressed that RMU supports students pursuing both local and international job opportunities. However, the institution insists on being involved throughout the process to protect applicants’ interests. He added that all relevant Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) must be submitted to ensure the safety and welfare of RMU students working abroad.
Mr Dominic Eyiah, President of NAHEOG, highlighted that the professional body has over 1,000 unemployed members nationwide. He said the engagement would help members explore global employment opportunities, preventing idleness that could lead to social vices. Mr Eyiah also urged applicants to uphold good morals and adhere to Saudi Arabia’s regulations to safeguard their well-being.
SAMANA Ghana Limited’s Operations Manager, Moshbah Hajj, described his firm as a licensed recruitment agency accredited by both the Ministry of Labour and Employment and the Saudi Arabia Embassy. He clarified that SAMANA focuses on skilled services, such as construction and healthcare, rather than domestic work. Mr Hajj announced a two-day training and testing programme for forklift and warehouse operators from November 19–20, 2025, at the Don Bosco Training Institute in Tema. Interested applicants are required to bring their CVs, driving licenses, and supporting documents.
