The Greater Accra Regional Executives Council of the Ghana Muslim Mission has urged members to demonstrate compassion and generosity towards the less privileged during Ramadan.
In a Ramadan message, the Council stated that acts of charity were central to the spiritual essence of the holy month and encouraged Muslims to support the poor, needy and vulnerable within their communities.
It cited Quran 2:261, which says, “The example of those who spend their wealth in the way of Allah is like a seed [of grain] which grows seven spikes; in each spike is a hundred grains. And Allah multiplies [His reward] for whom He wills” and noted that immense reward was attached to selfless giving.
The Council explained that Ramadan was not only a period for fasting and prayer but also a time for practical demonstrations of love, kindness and social responsibility, especially towards persons facing hardship.
It urged members to regard charity (sadaqah) and almsgiving (zakat) as means of strengthening communal bonds and promoting social harmony and added that generosity during the holy month purifies wealth and deepens faith.
The message prayed that Allah Almighty would accept the ibaadah (worship) of members, forgive their shortcomings, and grant them the strength to serve Him with sincerity and devotion.
It expressed the hope that believers would witness ‘Laylatul Qadr,’ the Night of Power, described in the Qur’an as better than a thousand months, and benefit from its mercy and forgiveness.
The Council encouraged members in Greater Accra to extend the blessings of Ramadan to their communities and wished them a peaceful, charitable and spiritually fulfilling observance.
