Medical Director of Pantang Psychiatric Hospital, Dr. Yennusom Maalug, has raised urgent concerns after a severe rainstorm tore off sections of the hospital’s roofing, particularly affecting the Female VIP Ward 8.
Speaking on Channel One Newsroom, Dr. Maalug said the damage also extends to the generator housing and parts of the southern wall, increasing the risk of power outages and threatening essential hospital services.

He explained that the hospital has reached out to multiple authorities, including the MP, the Regional Minister, the Mental Health Authority, the La Nkwantanang-Madina Municipal Assembly, the Ministry of Health, and the contractor responsible for maintenance, seeking immediate intervention.
He noted that the hospital has implemented temporary measures while awaiting government assistance.

“We are getting roofing sheets to do some temporary works while we plan for a much better work. The contractor was at the office today, he made certain suggestions which goes beyond roofing sheets.
“It is all about money. We are pleading with the Infrastructure Department of the Ministry, if they can see this as an urgent need to reach out to us to see how we can go about it,” he said.

Dr. Maalug warned that without prompt repairs, patient care could be compromised, highlighting the critical need to restore the hospital to safe and fully functional conditions.
