Ghana National Association of Private Schools (GNAPS), has called on the Ministry of Education to come out with appropriate guidelines for the establishment and management of private schools in the country.
The association expressed concern about the way and manner in which the Ghana Education Service (GES) handled the registration and licensing of private schools at all levels.
Mr. Godwin Sowah, National President of GNAPS, made the call in a speech read on his behalf by Mr. Michael Appiah, Ashanti Regional Chairman of the association, at the launch of this year's Private Schools' Week celebration, under the theme "The Nation is in pursuit of quality and relevant education", in Kumasi on Monday.
He said education was crucial to the country's development and its management should not be left in the hands of inexperienced people.
Mr. Godwin Sowah said the association was not happy about the computerized school placement system and it would present its grievances to the new Minister for Education.
Ms. Mary Sarfo Afrakomah, First National Vice President of the Association, who launched the celebration, advised school children to study hard to enable them to acquire skills and knowledge needed for national development.
