Mr. William Kofi Adzowu, the Municipal Chief Executive for Obuasi East, has broken ground for the construction of three landmark projects aimed at improving access to quality education and healthcare.
The projects are a modern health centre with nurses’ quarters at Domeabra, kindergarten (KG) block with ancillary facilities at Nyamesomyede, and a Junior High School (JHS) classroom block with ancillary facilities at Asonkore.
The goal is to address longstanding gaps in healthcare delivery and educational infrastructure, marking a new chapter of growth and improved service delivery for residents of the beneficiary communities.
Mr. Adzowu said the new JHS classroom block was a strategic intervention aimed at eliminating the “shift system” in parts of the municipality.
He stated: “Our goal is to ensure that no student sacrifices instructional time due to inadequate classroom space.
This JHS block will reduce overcrowding and create a more conducive environment for effective teaching and learning.”
He further highlighted the importance of the KG block at Nyamesomyede, noting that expanding access to early childhood education remained a priority.
By bringing school infrastructure closer to communities, the Assembly seeks to give every child a strong academic foundation.
The MCE also appealed to community members for their cooperation and support to ensure the timely completion of the projects.
The construction of the modern Health Centre with Nurses’ Quarters is expected to significantly improve healthcare access and quality in Domeabra and surrounding communities.
According to the MCE, the facility would provide accessible, timely and quality healthcare services, reducing the distance residents currently travel to access basic medical care.
Mrs. Charity Afrifa-Adjei, the Municipal Director of Health Services, expressed appreciation to the MCE for the intervention and assured that qualified health personnel would be deployed immediately after completion.
Mr. Samuel Oppong, a representative from the Education Directorate, described the JHS block as a “gamechanger,” noting that, while the project marked significant progress toward ending the shift system, continued partnership would be essential to fully eradicate it across the municipality.
