To mark the completion of 60 years of fruitful diplomatic relations with India, Germany will observe the 'Year of Germany in India' in 2011 with a series of scientific, academic and cultural programmes.
The event will include exchange of students in institutions in the two countries, knowledge-sharing, discussions on scientific developments and German film festivals, German Ambassador to India Thomas Matussek said.
"The events will commence from Spring next year. This is being conducted in view of the diplomatic ties between India and Germany completing 60 years in 2011," Matussek told
reporters here on Monday.
The Government of Germany had allocated 13 million Euros for the programme.
The envoy said 'Science Express', a train displaying advancements made by Germany in science and technology, would visit important cities in the country.
"This will give an idea about the technology that can be offered by Germany and give information to Indian companies regarding investments that can be made in Germany," he said.
He said plans are there to invite noted musician Zubin Mehta for conducting various programmes for the Theatre and Arts Festival to be held as part of the event.
Apart from a cultural event, the occasion is expected to provide a platform for both countries to exchange their services in various sectors.
Germany could offer its technological know-how in infrastructure, automobile and energy to India.
"Ten to 15 years from now, India will have half a billion people on working age and it can be a major resource for the country. If you provide right education for these youngsters,
then both countries can have an exciting journey in future," he said.
India would also conduct a similar event in Germany displaying its cultural and historical traditions, sources said.
