Edward Kennedy, a U.S. Senator who passed away late on Tuesday, will be buried at Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia on Saturday, said his family on Wednesday.
The burial will be held after a private funeral mass and memorial service in Boston, Massachusetts, said his family in a statement released by government officials.
"Senator Kennedy will be laid to rest next to President (John F.) Kennedy and Senator Robert Kennedy," said the statement.
According to the Kennedy's family, the body of Senator Kennedy will lie in state for the public to view on Friday from 10:00 am (1200 GMT) until 4:00 pm (1800 GMT) at the John Fitzgerald Kennedy presidential library in Boston.
A private memorial service will be held at the library from 5: 00 pm (1900 GMT), before a funeral mass the following day from 3: 45 pm (1745 GMT) at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Basilica, also in Boston.
Starting 5:00 pm on Saturday (1900 GMT), the burial service will kick off at the Arlington National Cemetery outside Washington, D.C.
"The nation's resting place for its heroes, Senator Kennedy spent more days than most at Arlington visiting the graves of his beloved brothers and paying tribute to the fallen men and women of Massachusetts who gave their lives for our country," said the statement.
Edward Kennedy, also known as "Teddy," was the brother of former U.S. President John Kennedy who was assassinated in 1963. He was the last of the Kennedy four brothers.
After a 15-month struggling against the brain tumour, "Teddy" died late Tuesday night at home in Hyannis Port, Massachusetts, just weeks after death of his sister Eunice Kennedy Shriver on Aug. 11.
Kennedy was first elected to the Senate in 1962, when his brother John was President. He served eight terms in the Senate, which was the longest by two senators.
