Lieutenant Colonel Bernard Pantoah, Commanding Officer of the 66 Artillery Regiment of the Ghana Armed Forces has appealed to the public to provide timely information on activities of people who would want to subvert the territorial integrity of the country.
He said the support of the public in that regard would help the security services to deal "promptly" with such rabble-rousers including the so-called Homeland Study Group Foundation, which made claims to a so-called Western Togoland.
The Commander who made the call at the 2019 celebration of the West African Security Services Association (WASSA), which was held at the Obeng Square of the Volta Barracks in Ho, said the resolve of the Regiment was to deal with any such group, which sought to destabilise the Volta and Oti regions.
"We want to assure the people of the Volta and Oti Regions that we are ready to deal decisively with any group or individuals who attempt to destabilize the peace of the two Regions.
Lt. Col. Pantoah commended all the ranks of the Regiment for their "vigilance, alertness and professionalism", which helped keep the Regions safe, and urged the officers to work "harder" at maintaining the "high" standards the Regiment is noted for.
"While celebrating the successes chalked so far, I urge all of us to avoid complacency in any form, and continue to remain disciplined, professional, effective and politically neutral in the performance of our duties in the coming year", he stated.
Rev. Johnson Avuletey, Deputy Volta Regional Minister who was the special Guest of Honour, extolled the Regiment for its response to security in the Region.
He reiterated the continuous support of the Regional Coordinating Council as the nation inched towards its general elections, and asked the Regional Security Council to "step up its programmes" to ensure peace at the polls.
The Celebration was attended by a broad spread of stakeholders, who were entertained with an inter battery mortar striping and assembling, arm wrestling, and cooking competitions.
