The District Grand Lodge of Mark Master Masons of Ghana has undertaken a significant renovation project at the Osu Government Maternity Home, reaffirming its commitment to charitable service and public welfare.
As part of the initiative, the fraternity donated two new air conditioners and fully refurbished the administrative office block of the facility to enhance staff working conditions and improve patient care.
During a brief ceremony to hand over the upgraded facilities, the Deputy District Grand Master and immediate past Minister for Transport, Kwaku Ofori Asiamah, led a delegation from the lodge and used the occasion to address lingering misconceptions about Freemasonry in Ghana.
He described the fraternity as a noble brotherhood rooted in service, charity, and moral advancement.
“Freemasonry is a noble brotherhood rooted in charity, service, and the pursuit of moral and social upliftment,” Mr Asiamah said. “We are not a secret society with hidden agendas. Rather, we are a socially relatable organisation committed to protecting the interest of society and making life better for the vulnerable.”
He urged the public to disregard negative narratives that often surround the fraternity and instead recognise it as a collective of men dedicated to improving the lives of others. “Where society shows weakness, we strive to provide strength,” he added, promising continued support to the maternity home and other healthcare institutions across the country.
The Facility Manager, Madam Alice Ofoli, expressed heartfelt appreciation for the donation and refurbishment, describing the intervention as timely and impactful. “This donation and renovation will go a long way to improve both staff morale and patient comfort. We are grateful and will ensure that the items are put to good use,” she said.
Also present at the event were Frank Davies, District Grand Director of Ceremonies, and Kojo Taylor-Appiah, District Grand Secretary, all of whom are senior members of the District Grand Lodge. The donation is one of several community-focused initiatives being undertaken by the Freemasons to demonstrate their values of compassion and civic responsibility.
