The Foundation for Security and Development in Africa (FOSDA) together with our community of partners and allies including the Ghana Youth Manifesto Coalition (GYMC), Regional Youth Networks and National Network of Youth Groups (NNYOG) extend our deepest sympathies to the Government, Families and Friends of the 2 Ministers and 6 Others who lost their lives in the helicopter crash at Sikaman Brofoyedru in the Ashanti Region on 6th August 2025.
Particularly for the 2 Ministers FOSDA and the GYMC presented the Ghana Youth Manifesto to the Minister for Environment, Science and Technology (Alhaji Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed) in 2024 and recent engagement with the Minister for Defence (Dr. Edward Omane Boamah) at the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College (GAFCSC) during the Republic Day Lecture in July 2025. The 6 others were Alhaji Muniru (Ag. Deputy National Security Coordinator), Dr. Samuel Sarpong (Vice Chairman of the NDC), Mr Samuel Aboagye (A former Parliamentary Candidate), Sqn Ldr Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying officer Twum Ampadu and Sergeant Ernest Addo.
These 8 men were on their way to the launch of the Responsible Cooperative Mining and Skills Development Programme (rCOMSDEP). The launch of rCOMSDEP is an attempt by the Government to provide alternatives to illegal mining (Galamsey) in Ghana.
We honour the memory of these men who have paid the ultimate price in the fight against illegal mining (Galamsey) and for the peace and Security of the Nation.
FOSDA calls on the government to outrightly uproot the menace of illegal mining in Ghana in memory and honour of the great eight lives lost.
