Mr Alex Obeng-Gyabaa, Director in charge of Finance and Administration at the Eastern Regional Co-ordinating Council, has implored state appointed drivers to conduct themselves in line with civil service regulations by displaying competence and maturity in handling people they drive.
He said as people chosen on merit, it was incumbent on them to distinguish themselves from ordinary drivers by being abreast of relevant civil and public service regulations and other laws that govern their trade.
Addressing a two-day in-service training workshop for Government-appointed drivers in Koforidua on Monday, Mr Obeng-Gyabaa said it was imperative that they exhibit a higher sense of professionalism to their work, which should be different from the way ordinary drivers conduct themselves.
He said their mode of dressing, the kind of language used and their responsiveness to challenging situations should differentiate them from other drivers, so as to bring honour to themselves and the state.
Mr Oscar Hevi, a road's expert, who spoke on ethical driving urged the participants to be fair-minded and decent in all actions they undertake on behalf of the state.
He took the participants through a drill on the relationship between security and driving, emphasizing on road signalling and how to protect very important persons under their watch.
Mr Hevi stressed the need for participants to strictly adhere to road regulations so as not to endanger the lives of the people they drive.
The President of the Ghana National Association of Government Drivers, Mr Ebenezer Kabutey, told the GNA that the workshop was intended to raise driving standards among members so as to move government machinery in an expeditious manner.
