Storekeepers of the Ghana Education Service (GES) have been charged to avoid corruption and ensure best professional practices.
Mr. Joe Bio, a retired Internal Auditor of the GES, who made the call, asked the storekeepers not to allow superior officers to cajole or bully them into undertaking fictitious transactions.
He was addressing a three-day workshop on the theme: "The duties and responsibilities of the storekeeper", organised for more than 200
storekeepers from second cycle schools and district education offices in Ashanti Region, in Kumasi.
Mr. Bio called on storekeepers to consider themselves as key actors in the financial and accounting system of the Service since without them, there could not be any meaningful auditing.
He encouraged them to be self-confident and said it was erroneous that GES storekeepers' had low academic and professional background.
Mr. Bio advised them to take advantage of opportunities in the GES to enhance their academic and professional competence.
Mr. Joe Koranteng, Regional GES Guidance and Counseling Co-ordinator,asked them to be dedicated to their work.
